What is the Navamsa Chart? #

Formed by combining the Sanskrit words nava (Nine) and amsa (division). Each 30° sign in your birth chart is divided into nine equal parts of exactly 3°20 of arc. The Navamsa chart is of utmost importance as no astrological prediction is considered complete without it. If the D-1 chart is considered the “tree”, then the D-9 is the “fruit”. The Rasi chart describes the physical body, characteristics of an individual; the Navamsa chart describes their spiritual strength and core identity.  

What Does The Navamsa Chart Reveal? #

The Navamsa is the most crucial chart among the 16 divisional charts in Vedic astrology. Specifically, the Navamsa reveals the following core areas:

1. Marriage and Partnerships: The Navamsa is the primary chart used to analyze the quality of your marriage, the characteristics of your spouse and the nature of your intimate relationships. While the main Rasi chart gives the broader implications of marriage, the 7th house from the Navamsa Lagna reveals the physical characteristics and inner nature of your spouse. 

2. Dharma and Duty: In the Vedic tradition, marriage is considered a part of one’s dharma, one’s sacred duty that he must abide by. It is the path through which one attains spiritual growth. Therefore, the D-9 chart is also known as the Dharmamsa. It reflects your inner nature and your ability to follow your dharma. 

3. Spiritual Destiny and Karakamsa: The Navamsa also represents the unfolding of your soul’s journey and its inner purpose. The specific zodiac sign that your Atmakaraka (the planet with the highest degree that represents your soul ) occupies in the D-9 chart is your Karakamsa. The Karakamsa helps you obtain the guiding deities that will help you attain your ideals and Moksha.

Navamsa and Planetary Strengths  #

The D9 chart is used to obtain the true, hidden strengths of your planets. A planet that is strong in your Rasi chart but weak in the D9 will struggle to show its full potential.

Vargottama #

If a planet or your Ascendant occupies the same zodiac sign in both the Rasi chart and the Navamsa chart, then it attains a highly favourable status known as Vargottama. A Vargottama planet performs exceptionally well at bestowing exceptional benefits on an individual. 

Pushkar Navamsa #

Out of 108 Navamsa in the zodiac, 24 are considered to be Pushkar Navamsa. These are excellent and auspicious divisions ruled specifically benefic planets (the Moon, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter). Planets placed within a Pushkar Navamsa boost the horoscope, blessing the individual with immense strength, wealth, and luck.
